Viper Car Alarm Ringtone

January 18th, 2008

You know those annoying car alarms that cycle through 6 different sirens? Wouldn’t it be great or at the very least annoying to have that very sound as your cell phone ring tone?

Now you can! I present it here as an optimized mp3 file:

Podcast Chronicles Show #7 - Midnight Soultrain, Hot Music for a hot night 9-3-2007

September 3rd, 2007

It was 10pm in South San Diego, the temperature was still a steamy 90 degrees. It was memorial weekend, so I had some time to fire up the studio and check out some Podsafe music I had put on CD.

What is going on with the show? Podcasting takes passion, and lately I really don’t have a lot. I can’t take that out on you the listener, that wouldn’t be fair. With all of the life changes I have to deal with lately, there just isn’t time to plan a show. I what to keep the blood flowing. At least there are a number of you who continue to follow the show. So for now I will keep the show alive with occasional offerings of music and information. Sometimes I will try out new concepts. One day soon, I will emerge again! Until then, stay cool, stay real, be good and thanks for listening!

Here is a movie that just came out. A limited release, so finding a theater will not be easy. None the less it will be worth it.

Podcast Chronicles - Show #6 - IR (infra-red) web cam conversion with fire and flames.

July 1st, 2007

Some people say I have too much time on my hands. I say, I take advantage of the little piece of time I was given. Below is a video I made this weekend, just in time for the Fourth of July. I used a converted web cam that I got for $6 from Fry’s (I believe thier was also a $6 rebate as well, so the camera cost was zip. I removed the outer shell as I did not need that anymore. I carefully dug out the very tiny lens that was pressure inserted into the plastic holder. Mounted ahead of the lens, which required the lens removal, was a microthin, tiny sheet of glass that bocked the IR light from the CMOS sensor. I mounted the hacked camera circuit and sensor in a small black Project box I purchased at Radio Shack. In from of the web cam lens I mounted via the project box itself, a 37mm ND (Neutral Density) filter set. Yes a whole set! ND2 + ND4 + ND8!! Pardon the weirdness, I could not resist. :-)

Podcast Chronicles #5: Facing Fear with Purpose

June 3rd, 2007

This show starts off with the music, a few minutes of chatter explaining the Podcast Chronicles workflow and techniques, as the evening rolls on the monologs pick up. It isn’t so much what I say, as how what I say makes you think. I don’t pretend to have the answers, only the answers I use in the guidence of my own life. Much like an indian story teller, I put these experiences out for others to examine and apply to their own lives as they may see fit. The theme of the show revolves around social issues and dealing with our ambitions and fears. To that effort I ask that you listen late in the evening, after 10pm if you can, when your mind begins to quiet… and turn out the lights and turn on the show.

1 - The Show Is Over Everywhere - BENJI COSSA.
2 - Creative Energy with Guitar by Wayne Armond
3 - Here Come The Comets - Away With The Fairys
4 - Harmonica - KICKSTART
5 - Robert Lund - Jail - The FuMP
6 - Save You - Toys in Trouble
7 - Motherless Child - Long Way From Home - OCT 2007 - Lovespirals
8 - Figurine - Phil Aiken
9 - Treat Me Right - Scotty Meyer Band
10 - Sudden Death - Pillagers - The FuMP
11 - So What Do You Think - The Window Shoppers
12 - Patiently Waiting - OVATRONICS
13 - Imagine - Wilson Davalos

Please do what you can to support the artists, purchase some of their music or at least tell all your friends. Since this show is not promoted in the usual manor, I am asking your help in passing the word, tell your friends about this podcast and help them become Podcast listeners if they are not already.

Podcast Chronicles #3: An hour in headspace, or 17 songs that rock your block. (Music)

May 23rd, 2007

Since this is a new direction for the show. I thought I would decribe what has changed. I have another podcast, the “Loose Ends Show” that I do with my wife. It is on a hiatis while we deal with some “life” issues. We do the Loose Ends Show in studio “A” a completely digital collection of Mixers. compressors and enhancers, plus two floating studio mics and an Edirol recorder. The Podcast Chronicles is in studio “B” (the garage). The equipment is a ressurected DJ rig, Stanton Mixer, Shure dynamic stage mike, Denon 4000 two-deck CD player, microphone preamp and microphone compressor set to max. A rebuilt ThinkPad T43 with a Creative Labs PC card for the audio functions. Quite different from studio “A”. CD deck #1 has all the intros and effects, anything that may be used from show to show. Deck #2 contains a CD that is custom made for the show. It has all of the podsafe music converted back to wave format and while using Nero to burn the CD 25% RMS normalization is applied along with stereo seperation. This will keep all the tracks at the same relitive volume with the least amount of work.
The entire show is performed live. I work from a show plan that details the show sequencing. Some of the patter is scripted and some is ad libed. Once the show is recorded, I upload to my mastering PC. Any cleanup is performed (flubs, like bumping the mike), and the show is saved again as a wave file. It is then run through the “Levelator” in order to provide a standard output level.

The resulting file is renamed with my standard naming convention and it is dropped into WinLame to create the mp3 file. WinLame settings: 128Kbps, 16bit, stereo, constant bitrate, lowpass at 15,500Hz.

ID3 tags and album art is added with iTunes. WHEW! :-)

That’s this months show! Will we do music again next time? Who knows! Podcast Chronicles is an anarchist media event, a land of do as you please, a resource of fine independant music and timely information and arrogant opinion.

Until next time, stay real… because there is a lot stuff out there that isn’t…

Review of the Edirol R1 digital recorder.

This review was recorded several months ago for a friends podcast. Since that time I have continued to use the R1 and still contend that it is a great recorder value. I end the podcast with some additional commentary and thoughts. The Marantz, the MicroTrack and the Edirol are each good buys and comparable products. Price and features do vary, so whichever you choose, you will be very pleased.

Welcome to the Podcast Chronicles!

November 1st, 2006

Welcome to the Podcast Chronicles!

Podcast Chronicles is podcast about my adventure in the forest of podcasting. In this podcast I will talk about the origin of Podcastiong, the current state of podcasting and we will try to look into the future of podcasting as well.

But we will not remain topically centered just on Podcasting, we intend to broadly look at the experience of being a podcaster which will include vinettes of life in a home filled with technology. From GPS to digital photography, from audio to the social and political fallout of these new technologies.
